I recently read an article in the recruit section of the Straits Times and this acroynm "NATO" caught my eye. The article was talking about the different profiles of job candidates that companies should not attempt to hire. One such taboo profile was identified as NATO which stands for "No Action; Talk Only".Perhaps there are cultural reasons for the NATO syndrome to manifest. For instance, Indians from India generally do not say "No" in circumstances even when they know they cannot deliver something which they promise. To the Indians, saying "no" is deemed as too indirect, disrupts harmony and is counter-productive to a good relationship. Some may also argue that perhaps the NATO breed of mortals are merely mis-judged because they indeed commit action, but it is "behind the scene". But can the common eye even detect work done behind the scene? Some non NATO-folks on the contrary try to make their work more visible. However, excessive visibility backfires & earns you another undesirable title, "The Wayang(in malay means putting up a show) king". "The Wayang King" bears a worser connotation than "NATO" because the fella is percieved as doing tonnes of work on the surface but little real work is done at all.
Human beings are so quick to judge you isnt it? Be it calling you a "NATO" or "WAYANG KING". Human's logic and train of thoughts are myopic and dynamic yeah? In a world when everybody is judging everyone else; where can you hide????. Sure, but be glad to know that Jesus would never ever judge you or pass a stereotype on you because he so loves you so much. We only need to seek and establish our identity in Jesus and Abba. People's tongues will constantly waggle and gossip about you, but as long as we do our best in our job, complete our work, be responsibile to our work, Abba will bless us. Pay no heed to what others say of you. For every backstabbing/mis-judgement that you encounter in the workplace, Abba will restore the years owed to you and restore you like the Eagles .
