Do you need a reason?

A few days ago, i was watching a HK drama and there was this scene which touched my heart. The child in the drama was making carnation out of straws and colored papers to give to his mother. When the mother received the carnation, she was pleasantly pleased and asked her child what was the special occasion to warrant this sweet gift.

The child in all his innocence replied thoughtfully, "Mummy, do you really need a reason before you can give a present to your family members?"

Now i understand that this dialogue came from the drama scriptwriters hence there is no way we can ascertain in reality if a child or even an adult might have the wisdom and maturity to utter such a line.

But, im indeed moved by this line. When was the last time you bought a nice sweet gift for your parents, siblings or your spouse/gf/bf without the need for a special occasion like birthdays or anniversaries?
